Pleasantville man dies after crash with paving machine

A Pleasantville man died in a crash with a machine that was milling and paving Route 9.
Walter Joya, 30, was driving his Dodge 1500 pickup when he collided with the Bomag 191AD Articulated Tandem Roller machine that was being used in the closed newly paved northbound lane at the intersection of Wesley Avenue, Capt. Matt Hartman said.
Joya, who was severely injured, was treated at the scene by Tricare EMS, AtlantiCare paramedics and Pleasantville Fire/Rescue personnel, Hartman said
He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus, where he died of his injuries.
The roller operator was also taken to the Atlantic City hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
New Jersey State Police assisted at the scene.
The crash is being investigated by Patrolman Juan Morillo of the Pleasantville Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
