A local non-profit gets creative during the Covid-19 crisis.
Fifty degrees and sunny isn't bad weather for a fundraiser walk/run on the Atlantic City boardwalk. Granted, a few light layers and a jacket are probably in order, but coordinators would be thrilled with such a beautiful day full of sunshine rather than rain. That is if they were able to hold their event out on the boards, which right now is an impossible feat due to the Coronavirus pandemic. So, what are fundraising groups left to do? They continue their efforts to bring in people, and funding, in a way that has become the new norm during quarantine ...virtually.
Since this time last year, staff members at Seashore Gardens Living Center in Galloway have been actively planning their April 19th, 2020 10th annual 5k Run/Walk, which is their primary fundraiser to support free Alzheimer's Outreach services, including a monthly Alzheimer's Support Group, home visits in the community, and care management plans. Like many non-profits, Seashore Gardens is forced to navigate through this time of social distancing by finding new ways to connect and fundraise. The solution - go virtual.
While today's race may not have the backdrop of hundreds of runners/walkers coming together to donate their time and money to a cause that supports so many families suffering with Alzheimer's and Dementia, YOU can still join in wherever you are! Click here for more information on how to participate and donate and be sure to share your pictures of your virtual walk/run to the Seashore Gardens Facebook Page.
As a proud sponsor of the event, SJNtv was looking forward to being a part of today's boardwalk festivities, but as we know, things have taken a turn. With social distancing measures in place and large gatherings canceled until further notice, the event is still bringing people together, but in a way that is now considered the new norm as we remain under quarantine. With so many non-profits forced to cancel their regular gatherings and fundraising events, please remember that these groups need your help now more than ever and are always happy to accept donations at any time of the year, not just on "race" days. Even the smallest donation can make a big difference.
