Atlantic County had five more deaths attributed to the coronavirus as confirmed cases increased to 878. A 71-year-old man and 73-year-old woman from Linwood died, along with three Hammonton residents: an 86-year-old woman and two men, ages 75 and 86. It was the second day in a row that confirmed positives surpassed 100. The newly confirmed include 39 men ages 26 to 95 and 63 women ages 19 to 95.
The spike is attributed to more testing, including the state working with Cooper Hospital to provide testing at 16 long-term care facilities in South Jersey. That has especially been true of the Hammonton Center, which has 147 confirmed cases and 10 deaths, causing the town to reach a county-high 166, including 27 newly confirmed.Galloway Township also had 27 newly confirmed cases, with 20 in Absecon, seven in Atlantic City and Egg Harbor Township, five in Hamilton Township and four in Pleasantville. Somers Point and Ventnor each had two new cases and Buena Borough had one.
Atlantic County will continue testing Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Hamilton Township site. Atlantic City also started testing this week at two sites, including a walk-up site in the Showboat parking lot.
For all sights, residents must be symptomatic for respiratory illness, provide a doctor’s script, proof of residency and confirmation of appointment.
