Atlantic County has five more deaths attributed to COVID-19

The deaths of five Atlantic County residents have been attributed to the coronavirus, county health officials announced Thursday.There have also been 22 more residents listed as recovered, bringing that number to 178.Deaths are now at 42.

Four of the five newly reported deaths were in long-term care facilities. The Hammonton Center has been hardest hit of those facilities, with 147 confirmed cases as of Wednesday, and 10 deaths.That is more than twice the number of cases as any other long-term care center in the county. The Royal Suites Rehab in Galloway Township is second with 71 cases. They have had no deaths.Absecon had 33 newly confirmed cases, all in a long-term care facility.Absecon Manor, which is also listed as Preferred Care, had 20 cases as of Wednesday, with two deaths, according to the long-term facilities list provided by the state. But those numbers are not in real-time, and are self-reported.

The county released Absecon's first confirmed death Thursday, an 81-year-old man.

The other newly reported deaths include a 78-year-old woman and 59-year-old man from Hammonton, a 78-year-old Egg Harbor Township man, and an 89-year-old Linwood woman.

There also were 57 newly confirmed cases in the county, including a 7-year-old girl.The oldest is a 92-year-old woman.The cases include 25 men ages 22 to 88.

Atlantic County is now at 960 confirmed cases.

Atlantic City has eight newly confirmed cases, with four in Egg Harbor Township and three each in Linwood, and Galloway and Hamilton townships. Pleasantville has two new cases and Weymouth has one.

Atlantic County also announced additional drive-thru testing dates for next Tuesday and Thursday, which are by appointment only and require symptoms and a doctor's prescription. They will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing. The county already had tested nearly 700 residents, with 27.1 percent testing positive.Residents may make an appointment for testing online at www.aclink.org. In addition to the doctor’s prescription, residents must also provide proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, as well as the appointment confirmation.

As always, those who are unable to keep their appointments are asked to cancel so that others will have an opportunity to be tested.
