Atlantic City's Neighborhood Coordination Unit officers will do what neighbors do this week: throw barbecues.
The unit was started last year in an attempt to get back to the basics of community policing, by assigning two officers to each of the city's six wards, along with four doing homeless outreach.
This week, those officers will be part of two community barbecues.
The first is from noon to 3 p.m. Monday in Brown's Park, where residents of Wards 1 through 3 will be welcome for pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs and more. There will also be bookbag giveaways.
Officers in Wards 4, 5 and 6 will host another barbecue Thursday at Pete Pallitto Field from 1 to 3 p.m.
Social distancing will be enforced, and those attending must wear masks.
