A suspect in a July assault using a shotgun was arrested Thursday, after allegedly assaulting an Atlantic City police officer while in possession of a handgun.
David Spinks, 61, of Northfield, was wanted in a July 13 attack, Lt. Kevin Fair said Friday.
Police were called to the first block of North Michigan Avenue on July 13, for the report of an assault.
The 43-year-old Atlantic City man had been struck in the head several time by a man with a shotgun, according to the report.
The victim was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for treatment.
Detective Ryan Kov found surveillance video that showed the suspect's vehicle leaving the area, Fair said.
Sgt. Garry Stowe saw the suspect vehicle at New York and Pacific avenues on Thursday, and conducted a motor vehicle stop, Fair said.
Spinks got out of the car, and tried to assault Stowe, according to the report.
He was taken into custody after other officers arrived to help.
Stowe found a loaded handgun in Spinks' pocket, Fair said.
Spinks is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and tampering with evidence.
He was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
