An Atlantic City man who set a fire inside the home where he was living was released with conditions Thursday.
Daniel Grisales-Mejia, 21, is charged with aggravated arson in the fire that burned a two-story wood-frame home on North Kingston Avenue on Sunday night.
Grisales-Mejia apparently set books on fire to keep warm, but the fire got out of hand, according to information provided during his detention hearing.
There was no criminal intent, attorney Alex Settle told the judge, noting that his client who called 911 "and let them know it got out of control.
Judge Sara Beth Johnson released Grisales-Mejia to the home of a cousin who lives in the city, but said it concerned her "that he thought it was a good idea to set some books on fire in an open fire inside a house."
"That's the best version of events," she said.
Grisales-Mejia will have to report to the court weekly via phone.
The fire displaced two people.
