A Somers Point man is charged in the killing of an Egg Harbor Township man in Atlantic City last month.
Oshshakkur Derrick, 24, is accused of fatally shooting 36-year-old Jose Ortiz during an apparent robbery at a home in the 100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue early Nov. 22, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner announced Thursday.
Derrick is charged with felony murder, which is a killing that happens during the commission of another crime.
He was booked into custody at the Gloucester County jail Dec. 4, according to court records. It is not clear why the Prosecutor's Office waited nearly three weeks to announce the arrest.
Derrick also is charged with kidnapping, robbery, attempted robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon.
There is an additional charged of attempted murder, but it was not clear if there was another victim who survived.
Police were called to the home at 12:43 a.m. Nov. 22, according to the report. There, they found the township man with an apparent gunshot wound.
He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing, and involves the Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Atlantic City and Somers Point police departments.
Derrick remains in the Gloucester facility, according to jail records.
Last month, Tyner released a video showing two men of interest. It was not clear which man is alleged to be Derrick.
