An Atlantic City man found dead inside a sedan Friday evening died of multiple gunshot wounds, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said Monday.
Rasheed Abdullah — who also was known as Jeffrey Simpson — was found unconscious and unresponsive in a white Chevrolet sedan with tinted windows parked on the beach block of Melrose Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Abdullah, 53, was taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where he was pronounced dead.
It is being investigated as a homicide.
“We urge everyone who may have been in the area to contact the Prosecutor’s Office if they witnessed or heard anything that could assist in the apprehension of the person responsible for this homicide,” Tyner said.
The office is looking for assistance in identifying any suspicious activity surrounding the sedan. The office released maps with a yellow star showing where the vehicle may have been parked for several hours during the afternoon Friday.
Anyone with information is asked to call Major Crimes at 609-909-7666 or Atlantic City police at 609-347-5766. Information can also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
