A Mays Landing man is in jail after police allegedly found 2,500 bags of heroin inside his seized vehicle.
Braheem Norwood's car was towed by Atlantic City police last Friday, after a narcotics-detection dog indicated drugs in the vehicle, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Norwood was not charged at the time.
Days earlier, Norwood was released on a summons after 3 grams of marijuana was found in his seat when he was pulled over at Adams Court.
At that time, it was his passenger who drew law enforcement's attention, after a detective received information that Patrice Dowe was in the city with a gun.
Dowe did have a gun and was arrested, according to charges filed at the time.
After the second stop on Friday, Norwood's vehicle was towed to the Police Department lot while police applied for a search warrant.
Detective Ermindo Marsini then searched the vehicle and found 2,500 bags of heroin.
The discovery led to a warrant for Norwood, who turned himself in Thursday, Fair said.
He is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute and possession with intent to distribute within a school zone.
Norwood was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Note: The Atlantic County Justice Facility no longer provides mugshots to the media, citing the Atlantic County prosecutor’s order. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office says it’s part of the Attorney General’s Guidelines. There is no such guideline, according to the Attorney General’s Office, but they have told these offices for years that they should not release any photos that appear to be mugshots.
