Those looking to undergo same-day orthopaedic procedures will have another option come spring. Officials with AtlantiCare ushered in the next wave of the health system's expansion with a ribbon cutting this week for the new Center of Orthopaedic Surgery in its Health Park in Egg Harbor Township on English Creek Avenue.
The new facility will open in the spring, in part, to meet the increasing need for same-day orthopaedic surgeries, including same-day joint and spine surgeries. Officials say it follows a trend in healthcare to provide high-quality care in a lower-cost setting, which they add that AtlantiCare has been doing for 20 years through its surgery centers – and at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center – since decades before then.
On a yearly basis, the facility is expected to see up to 5,000 same-day out-patient surgeries, which will include orthopaedic sports medicine, foot and ankle, hand, spine and pain management procedures as well as total hip and knee replacements.
In addition to its surgical offerings, the 48,000 square foot facility will house more than 60 pieces of original art, which officials believe will help enhance the healing environment for patients and their families, as well as the staff.
