Atlantic City teens work to clean up the streets

  • News

A group of teens are committed to cleaning up Atlantic City — literally.
LIT, or Leaders In Training, is a summer program that provides work and learning to those in the city ages 14 to 18.
“Just knowing that we’re cleaning up our community makes me feel better,” said Dynasty Deberry. “And people seeing us encourages us to keep doing it.”
The teens work from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. They then have educational workshops on Fridays.
They also have the option to work extra hours on the weekends.
Turning Point’s Leaders in Training Program is in its second year and was established by Rev. Collins Days of Second Baptist Church and Joe Jingoli, partner of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City.
It got a late start this summer, due to COVID-19.
Ahmad Huckaby, one of the supervisors, says he loves doing his job and making a difference in his city.

Any questions about the program or to make donation inquires call Shermaine Gunter-Gary at 609-204-2183.
