A ShotSpotter alert led to the arrest of a teen and recovery of a loaded handgun, police said.The city's audio gunshot-detection system alerted police to the 500 block of North Ohio Avenue at 11:43 a.m., Sgt. Kevin Fair said.Officers found evidence of gunfire, including shell casings, according to the report.Police were told the person who fired the gun had run into a residence there, Fair said.Officers surrounded the residence with help from the city's SWAT team.
The occupants were ordered to exit the residence, and all complied, Fair said.
Police recovered a loaded handgun with ammunition that matched the casings found at the scene, according to the report.a 17-year-old boy was identified as the suspect, and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
He was taken to the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center.
