A man and woman accused of killing an Atlantic City teenager and then fleeing to Pennsylvania were ordered held in jail Friday.
Shaquana Lewis, 35, is accused of threatening the victim’s brother and father before coming to the Blaine Avenue home, where her boyfriend allegedly shot 17-year-old Cu'raan Williams twice.
The woman then “is alleged to have told her own child she better not cooperate with this prosecution,” Assistant Prosecutor Kathleen Robinson told the judge.
Lewis and co-defendant, Lewis Johnson, appeared in court separately Friday, via video from the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Both were ordered held by Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury.
“This defendant is the quintessential threat to public safety,” DeLury said of Johnson.
The 31-year-old man has a lengthy criminal history that includes a prior weapon conviction under the No Early Release Act.
He and Lewis fled to Pennsylvania after the killing. Following their arrest, Johnson again tried to flee, the prosecutor said.
She gave no details about that incident.
Lewis spoke briefly during the hearing, confirming through her attorney that she would not contest her detention. That was done with the addendum that another hearing could be requested once the defense receives all the discovery in the case.
The victims' foster mother watched the hearing online.
"Justice will be served," Porscha Ragsdale told BreakingAC. "Nothing will bring Cu'raan back, but knowing these two animals are in a cage and can't hurt anyone else makes our community just a little bit safer. Continue to pray for all the innocents involved."
