A California man today admitted shipping about 30 pounds of crystal methamphetamine to someone in Atlantic City.Isabel Otanez-Sanchez also admitted Monday to conspiring to send an additional five kilograms of fentanyl into New Jersey, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said.The 26-year-old San Jacinto, California, man pleaded guilty in Camden Federal Court.Otanez-Sanchez and Jesus Zavala-Torres hid 28 packages of meth inside a salvaged vehicle that was shipped from California to New Jersey, according to the charges.Zavala-Torres previously pleaded guilty.But the person they were conspiring with was apparently a confidential source.The drugs were found in the car's gas tank.The unnamed source later met the two men in Riverside, California, Feb. 12, 2019, where the two agreed to sell the source an additional five kilograms of fentanyl, that would be shipped to the CS in New Jersey, just as the meth was, according to statements in court.Law enforcement first received information about Otanez-Sanchez — known as Pancho — in September 2018.
Otanez-Sanchez pleaded guilty to an information charging him with one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and a quantity of fentanyl.The conspiracy charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison with a maximum of life and a $10 million fine.
