Schools closing as a result of the novel strain of coronavirus is a matter of when not if, Gov. Phil Murphy said Friday.Now, it seems Atlantic County's school districts have made a joint decision for closings to begin this week."Every Atlantic County district is initiating a school closure on Monday or Tuesday, based on the individual district's circumstances," Galloway Township Superintendent Annette Giaquinto wrote in a letter to Galloway families.Each school has created longterm lesson plans for remote learning, allowing those extra days spent at home to count toward the required 180. - Absecon will have a half-day of school Monday, allowing students to gather any personal items in an effort to ease the implementation of Absecon School’s Health-Related Closure Preparedness Plan.The day will end at 12:40 p.m.School will be closed beginning Tuesday through spring break, with a scheduled return date of April 17. - Atlantic City planned to have only teachers come in Monday, but instead have students coming in Monday, when they will be given chromebooks and educational materials for the extended closure beginning Tuesday. - Egg Harbor City will begin their closure Monday, running at least through spring break, Superintendent Adrienne Shulby said in a letter to district parents, teachers and students.
- Egg Harbor Township will close beginning Tuesday. Monday will be used for students to prepare for long-term planning. If a student is absent, they have until 6 p.m. Monday to pick up their belongings. Home instruction will then begin, which is expected to continue until at least March 31. CLICK for more information.
- Galloway Township will have school Monday and then begin a long-term Tuesday. That will extend through spring break, with students scheduled to return April 20. CLICK for more information.
- Greater Egg Harbor will close school beginning Tuesday. "We encourage you all to check your email and your school's website regularly for more information," wrote Superintendent John Keenan, whose district includes high school students from Egg Harbor City, along with Galloway, Hamilton and Mullica townships.
- Hamilton Township will begin remote learning Monday. The closure is set to continue through March 27. CLICK for more information.
- Mainland’s school districts made a joint announcement that they will close beginning Monday with a plan to return to school in two weeks. The districts include Northfield, Linwood and Somers Point, along with Mainland Regional and CharterTech high schools. CLICK for more information.
- Margate will close beginning Tuesday, Superintendent Thomas Baruffi wrote in an updated letter posted Sunday. He added that a platform for the delivery of home instruction was being created in the event of closure.
- Mullica Township will close beginning Monday with an anticipated return of April 20, Superintendent Andrew Weber wrote. CLICK for more information.
