Atlantic City now has seven confirmed cases of the coronavirus, Mayor Marty Small announced Monday.
The mayor had been taking to Facebook Live last week to offer updates.But in the past few days, he just made quick announcements online to update the public.
Atlantic County now has 30 cases, but officials have not given a breakdown by municipality as other counties have. Small has made it a point to keep a tally of residents diagnosed with COVID-19.Many in the area are still waiting to hear when a testing site will pop up locally.The state health commissioner has said there is about a seven-day backup on tests, which are only being given to those with symptoms.
Each county is supposed to offer a possible location to the state for testing.Small is pushing for Bader Field, which county leaders have suggested the Hamilton Mall parking lot or the former Shore Mall.
Five of Atlantic County's cases listed as recovered
Atlantic County has some positive news amid announcement of another confirmed COVID-19 case in the county. Five residents have been listed as recovered, according to the county spokeswoman. The news came as a 31st case was confirmed. The county's first case was reported March 18. "Most individuals with mild or moderate symptoms of the virus, such as fever and cough, are able to recover at home in about two or more weeks," the county said in a statement.Public health officials remind residents to help prevent the spread of the virus by staying home and practicing safe respiratory and hygiene habits as well as to follow the recommended guidance for social distancing.The county has not provided a breakdown by municipality. Age range and gender have been given for some.
