Five of Atlantic County's cases listed as recovered

  • Covid 19

Atlantic County has some positive news amid announcement of another confirmed COVID-19 case in the county.Five residents have been listed as recovered, according to the county spokeswoman. The news came as a 31st case was confirmed. The county's first case was reported March 18."Most individuals with mild or moderate symptoms of the virus, such as fever and cough, are able to recover at home in about two or more weeks," the county said in a statement. The number of recovered patients released by Atlantic County sparked media to ask a question about recovery numbers statewide during Gov. Phil Murphy's daily briefing."We know that this information is important," Dr. Edward Lifshitz said. He said they do not yet have enough so-called "outcome data," but are working on that.Public health officials remind residents to help prevent the spread of the virus by staying home and practicing safe respiratory and hygiene habits as well as to follow the recommended guidance for social distancing.

The county has not provided a breakdown by municipality.Age range and gender have been given for some. There have been two men in their 20s, who were recovering at home.Another is a man in his late 50s, who was hospitalized, although the county did not indicate where.Other cases announced by the county last week include a man in his 60s, one in his 50s and another in his 30s. Two women — one in her 40s and one in her 20s — also were confirmed positive.Social distancing and quarantine continue to be the best measures to control the spread of the disease.

The state currently has two statewide drive-through testing sites, one at the Bergen County Community College and another at the PNC Center in Holmdel, both of which are supported by FEMA.

Atlantic County has identified the Hamilton Mall parking lot in Mays Landing or the old Shore Mall as potential drive-through testing sites.
