Atlantic County has surpassed 1,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday, including a 22-month-old girl who is among 63 newly confirmed cases.The deaths of a 44-year-old Pleasantville man and 66-year-old Egg Harbor Township man also were announced, bringing the total who have died from the disease to 44 county residents, county health officials announced.Both men had underlying health conditions that increased their risk of coronavirus-related complications, health officials said.The oldest among the newly confirmed cases is a 97-year-old woman, there were also 23 men newly confirmed, ranging in age from 18 to 73.There are now 1,023 confirmed cases. The county has cleared 198 residents as recovered.
Among the newly confirmed cases were 14 Northfield residents, 12 from Pleasantville, nine from Atlantic City, seven in Hamilton Township and six in Galloway Township.
Egg Harbor Township had three new positives while Absecon, Brigantine, Hammonton and Somers Point each had two. One new cases was confirmed in Buena Borough, Egg Harbor City, Linwood and Mullica Township.
A total of 198 Atlantic County residents have been cleared as recovered.
Atlantic County also will have additional drive-thru testing dates for next Tuesday and Thursday, which are by appointment only and require symptoms and a doctor's prescription.They will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing. Those who had appointments for April 30, which was canceled, can come at the same time Monday.
The county already had tested nearly 700 residents, with 27.1 percent testing positive. The statewide rate has been more than 40 percent.Residents may make an appointment for testing online at www.aclink.org. In addition to the doctor’s prescription, residents must also provide proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, as well as the appointment confirmation.
As always, those who are unable to keep their appointments are asked to cancel so that others will have an opportunity to be tested.
