Pleasantville man allegedly assaults Atlantic City officer during car burglary arrest

  • News

A Pleasantville man allegedly assaulted an officer while he was being arrested in car burglaries Sunday night.
A woman told Officers Robert Reynolds and Wen You that her husband was chasing a man who smashed out their car window and stole some items inside, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
The officers found the husband on Atlantic Avenue, where he pointed out Shawn Shurig as the suspect, according to the report.
Other officers were on a similar call in the first block of North Florida Avenue in reference to another car burglary and smashed window, Fair said.
When Reynolds told Shurig he was under arrest, the suspect started to yell and refused to comply, Fair said.
He was ultimately taken into custody. But as You began to search Shurig, he pulled away and kicked Reynolds several times, and tried to spit on him, according to the report.
After being put in the back seat of the patrol car, Shurig alleged started kicking Reynolds again several times.
Shurig had evidence from the car burglaries in his possession, Fair said.
Shurig, 26, was charged with two counts each of burglary, criminal mischief and theft, along with single counts of resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
He was released on a summons.
