Staff at two Atlantic City schools test positive for COVID

  • News

Two Atlantic City school district staff member have tested positive for the coronavirus, BreakingAC has learned.
"Students were not exposed to the staff member," Atlantic City High School Principal La'Quetta Small said in an email sent out late Tuesday morning.
Richmond Avenue School also had a positive case, another letter said.
"Cleaning and disinfecting of the exposed locations have been completed," the letter said.
It was not clear if parents were notified in either case.
Small said the schools followed tracing protocols to ensure the CDC guidelines for those who were in close contact with the staff member were followed.
The confirmed cases came a day after the district returned to in-person teaching.
The decision has been met by a call to action by the Atlantic City Education Association.
On Monday, more than 200 teachers called out in protest of returning students to what they say are unsafe conditions, including bad ventilation that forced some teachers to leave their windows open while students wore their coats.
The number topped 240 on Tuesday.
The topic is expected to be discussed at Tuesday night's Board of Education meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. and will be streamed via Zoom.
