Anonymous text leads to convicted Atlantic City gang member and defaced gun

  • News

An anonymous text led to the arrest of an Atlantic City man with a warrant and a gun, police said.
Laquay Spence, 30, was arrested Friday morning after police received a tip though the tip411 system that allows people to text with police without being identified. The tipster told police about Spence's alleged drug dealing.
He was arrested at 11:16 a.m. in the 2400 block of Arctic Avenue after an investigation by Detective Darrin Lorady, according to the report.
A search of Spence's residence resulted in a loaded handgun and drug paraphernalia, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Spence, who was previously charged in a federal case involving the alleged drug-trafficking gang Dirty Blok, received a two-year suspended sentence in 2017 for three violations on a drug sentence.
He was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison on the Dirty Blok case. He violated his parole in that case and went back to prison for six months, the U.S. Attorney's Office said at the time.
Spence is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on charges including certain person not to possess a weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of narcotic paraphernalia and contempt of court.
