Some Galloway students get help starting new 'virtual' school year

  • State

The school year starting this week looks much different for many students.
With virtual teaching requiring many to have a computer, one community leader decided to have a giveaway in Galloway Township.
James Pressley, of J.P. Ministries, was able to give away 100 chromebooks to Galloway students.
He also distributed more than 600 book bags with the help of a group including GreenLife Energy Solutions and Atlantic City Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi.
"The purpose was to provide assistance to families that may have been negatively impacted due to the pandemic," Pressley said. "Our children are faced with a very challenging and unique educational process right now. The goal was to equip as many students as we could with the essential tools to start a successful school year."
Also helping with the distribution was Atlantic County Sheriff Eric Scheffler and Hope One, Freeholder Caren Fitzpatrick, Freeholder candidates Celeste Fernandez and Thelma Witherspoon, and DJ MAR.
Pressley said he wanted to give special thanks to Township Manager Chris Johansen and Galloway Township police.
