Three people were stabbed in a family dispute in Pleasantville early Saturday morning.
One man is in custody, and a Class II officer is being credited with saving one victim’s life.
Maynor Moreno-Mejia, 37, is accused of stabbing his sister, her husband and her father-in-law inside a home on Abbey Lane.
K-9 Officer Matthew Laielli was in the Police Department parking lot at about 5 a.m., when someone approached him about a disturbance at the home, Lt. Stacey Schlachter told BreakingAC.
Laielli arrived to see Moreno-Mejia running from the residence, Schlachter said.
There were three victims inside.
Jimmy Mejia-Mendoza, the suspect's brother-in-law, had a life-threatening injury to his neck, Schlachter said. But thanks to the life-saving efforts of Special Law Enforcement Officer II DeCarlo Perez, the 40-year-old man is now in critical but stable condition.
Mejia-Mendoza's father, 71-year-old Israel Mejia-Medina, had lacerations to his arms and hands.
Moreno-Mejia's sister, Karen Moreno-Mejia, 25, had a laceration to her upper arm and defensive wounds.
Moreno-Mejia is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a weapon, and single counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, obstruction and resisting arrest.
He is being lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
