Ocean City police were called to the High School on Tuesday after an apparent threat on social media.
A screenshot of a text message threatening a shooting was brought to district officials, and the High School was immediately evacuated.
Parents were quickly notified via SwiftReach alert, letting them know evacuation procedures had been initiated.
A follow-up at 12:30 p.m. indicated that the students would be dismissed in the next 30 minutes “through busing, student-owned transportation and parent pick up.
“Dismissal will be in an orderly fashion,” the second alert added.
“All students are safe, but we are taking the threat serious,” the alert read. “The district will continue to work with Ocean City Police and communicate with parents once we know more information.”
An investigation is ongoing, but police do not believe the threat was credible at this point, city public information officer Doug Bergen said.
Police searched the building, and the school will be back to a regular schedule Wednesday.
