An Atlantic City man who brandished a gun in front of police just months after an earlier weapons arrest was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday.
Hasson Warren, 28, was arrested May 29, 2020, after police interrupted him pointing a gun at a another man during a confrontation in the middle of the 3800 block of Crosson Avenue at 10:23 a.m., according to the charges.
Warren then ignored orders by Detectives Alberto Valles and Anthony Abrams to drop the weapon, police said at the time. Instead, he turned toward the detectives, then ran. He threw the weapon before being arrested by Sgt. Brian Shapiro.
That January, Warren was arrested with a loaded handgun.
He pleaded guilty in both cases in August.
A judge previously ordered him held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending his case going through the courts, despite his attorney’s argument at the time that Warren’s medical issues made it dangerous for him to be in the jail.
He was released a little more than two months ago for medical treatment, according to information released during his sentencing Wednesday.
Attorney Justin Loughry said Warren has cardiac issues and that the latest diagnosis had been a spot on his chest.
But the judge said that wasn’t enough to keep Warren out of custody any longer. He was taken into custody after his sentencing.
He must serve at least 42 months before he is eligible for parole.
