A Galloway Township man is charged with aggravated manslaughter in a drunken boating accident that killed a Mays Landing woman.
Arthur Lesbirel, 45, was first charged with boating under the influence shortly after the July 2019 crash.
He admitted he was operating the boat when Iesha Thies, 39, was thrown from the boat. Once in the water, Thies was struck by the boat’s engine propeller, causing fatal injuries, according to the charges.
Lesbirel consumed at least nine standard drinks before operating the boat, an investigation by Dr. John Brick found, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.
His blood-alcohol content was estimated to be between .14 and .23 at the time of the accident, the affidavit states.
Lesbirel was arrested Monday by members of the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, Atlantic City Division.
He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting a detention hearing.
