Absecon man indicted in 'road rage' hit-run that killed Galloway woman

  • News

An Absecon man accused of chasing down a driver leading to a fatal crash has been indicted.
Keneet Camacho, 39, allegedly got into a confrontation with Janel Bembry in the parking lot of a Galloway Township restaurant before she took off with him following, a witness told police four days after the April hit-and-run.
"Somebody is chasing me on Wrangleboro Road, wanting me to put my window down,” Bembry said in a 911 call to police. “He’s trying to crash my car. He’s in a Toyota black truck. He’s trying to crash my car.”
Then the call went silent.
That's when Camacho rear-ended Bembry's car, pushing her into oncoming traffic just before 8 a.m. April 20, according to the affidavit.
The driver of the oncoming car suffered broken bones that required surgery. Bembry, 48, of Galloway, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Janel Bembry died as a result of the crash.

Camacho, who left the scene, later admitted to having five or six shots of tequila starting at 10 the night before and stopping around 2 a.m., the affidavit states.
“This case was a particularly violent and prolonged episode of apparent road rage,” Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury said in May, when he ordered Camacho held pending trial. “The defendant’s conduct was alarmingly dangerous… and the escalation of his violence was apparently fueled by alcohol abuse.”
Camacho was indicted this week on charges of aggravated manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, assault by auto and causing death while unlicensed/suspended.
He remains in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
This crash was investigated by Galloway Township police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Investigations Unit. Anyone with information is asked to call the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-909-7692.
