An Atlantic City man accused of wounding himself when he shot into a group of men was ordered held in jail Friday.
Anthony Duncan, 28, arrived at the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus about 15 minutes after the shooting with a gunshot wound to his left leg, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
He was wearing the same clothes as the suspect in surveillance video, the affidavit states
Surveillance shows the shooter walking onto Memorial Avenue from Bellfield at 1:53 p.m. Jan. 2, according to the charges.
He approaches a group of men, brandishes a black object that appears to be a gun and then smoke is seen leaving the barrel, indicating the gun was fired, the investigator wrote.
The suspect is then seen immediately grabbing his leg, while the group runs out of the alley.
It is believed the bullet ricocheted off the nearby cement wall, and then struck the shooter.
But Duncan says he was wounded during a robbery attempt, defense attorney Lauren Musarra said.
Duncan is currently enrolled in Recovery Court, where he already had a violation for a drug possession charge, Assistant Prosecutor David Ruffenach said, adding that Duncan’s criminality “is escalating.”
“Out of concern for the safety of the community as a whole, I don’t think it’s appropriate to have any form of release,” Judge Rodney Cunningham said.
Duncan will remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
