Atlantic City man ordered held in shooting

  • News

An Atlantic City man was ordered held in the November shooting of a man.
Ibn Jones, 31, was arrested last week in the Nov. 9 shooting at Indiana and Baltic avenues.
But his attorney said the case is “convoluted and confusing” and went through the facts that she said do not point to her client.
The defendant’s phone puts him at the location with surveillance showing the suspect approach a group of males and shoot one in the back, Assistant Prosecutor Allison Eiselen said.
The car allegedly used is registered to Jones and, when he came to get it from police, he signed with his left hand, Eiselen added. The shooter is left-handed.
But defense attorney Robin Lord said what isn’t mentioned about the surveillance is that the victim was seen with the driver of another vehicle, the one a K-9 dog indicated was positive for a gun.
Jones was allegedly in that vehicle as well.
Lord also said Jones was wearing a T-shirt and shorts earlier, not the distinctive sweatshirt of the shooter.
Jones also has ties to the community, including caring for the older two of his three children.
But Superior Court Judge Rodney Cunningham said rising criminality and the potential for retribution against witnesses in the case led him to detain Jones.
While Jones attended the detention hearing from the Atlantic County Justice Facility via video, he did not speak and was not shown on the public feed.
