Atlantic City woman held in knife-wielding robbery attempt

  • News

An Atlantic City woman out of prison just two months is back behind bars for a while.
Octavia Watson, 28, is accused of trying to rob a city store owner with a knife and threatening to kill him.
When police arrived, Watson refused initial commands to drop the knife, instead yelling that she was going to kill the store owner, according to the police report.
NBC-10 got surveillance footage of officers who were able to talk the woman into dropping the knife without getting physical.
Watson had her detention hearing Monday morning, when she was ordered held until trial.
She appeared via video from the Atlantic County jail, covering her face with what appeared to be a hand towel.

She appeared to speak at times, but her mic was muted so nothing could be heard.
Watson is charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Superior Court Judge Patricia Wild noted that the allegations were similar to a case in which Watson just finished serving three years. She was released Dec. 2.
Since her release, there have been issues getting a place to stay and employment, defense attorney Lauren Musarra told the judge.
The public safety assessment — used under bail reform to help determine if a defendant should be held or released — recommended Watson not be released.
She will now remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility as her case goes through the courts.
