An Atlantic City Police Explorer got a firsthand lesson in compassion this weekend, his mother said.
Angel Turcios, a 16-year-old police explorer, was in Atlantic City just before 5 p.m. Saturday, when a call came in for a woman on the ground in the 1300 block of Pacific Avenue.
The woman was suffering from a medical emergency, police said.
Officer Fariyd Holmes took off his jacket to keep the woman warm while waiting for medical personnel to arrive, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Angel captured a photo, and also brought a blanket to the woman as the ambulance arrived, said his mother, Griselda Garcia.
Due to concerns from the current pandemic, Holmes did not put his jacket back on and finished his shift without it, Fair said.
"I am very proud of the compassion and dedication displayed by Officer Holmes when he encountered a member of our community in need of assistance," interim Officer-in-Charge James Sarkos said.
"Not all cops are bad," Garcia said. "Not all heroes wear capes. Thank you ACPD for teaching our kids to protect and help the community."
