An Absecon man was allegedly intoxicated when he rear-ended a car in Galloway Township, sparking a fire Sunday night.
Michael Murphy, 27, of Absecon is charged with driving while intoxicated and assault by auto after he rear-ended a Chevy Bel Air driven by John Hurden as both traveled west on New York Road near Biscayne Avenue, according to police.
Hurden's gas tank was struck, and the car became fully engulfed, according to the report.
Murphy's F-150 continued north, running off the road and striking a tree and multiple signs before crashing into the Bayview Fire House, causing extensive damage to the building, police said. The F-150 overturned.
Hurden, 29, of Galloway Township, and his passenger were taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where they were in stable condition.
Murphy suffered minor injuries and was treated at AtlantiCare's Mainland Campus.
The road was closed for about two hours.
