  • News

A fugitive convicted of defrauding women while on federal supervised released for similar crimes is back in custody after he was arrested in Atlantic City .
Patrick Giblin, 56, formerly of Ventnor, escaped custody during an unsupervised furlough July 23.
He was nearly three years into a five-year plea deal in a case in which he was charged with scamming anywhere from $15,000 to $40,000 from 10 women.
Bureau of Prison personnel took Giblin from the Lewisburg penitentiary to the Harrisburg Airport at about 6 a.m., July 23, 2020, and watched him depart on a plane headed for Newark with a stopover in Charlotte, N.C.
He was to report to the Kintock Residential Re-entry Center at 3 p.m., but never returned, according to the charges.
Giblin was arrested last Wednesday by members of the U.S. Marshals Service.
He had his first appearance Monday before U.S. District Judge Anne Marie Donio in Camden.
This was not his first escape.
In 2013, he left a halfway house in Philadelphia while serving a 2007 conviction for defrauding women.
After he fled custody there, he began the scheme that led to the 2017 conviction.
It was not clear whether he returned to his previous ways of wooing women via online dating sites and then talking them out of their money.
