A Pleasantville man is accused of attacking his girlfriend's 2-year-old son while the child was in his care.
Robert Terrell, 36, attacked the child three separate times within a 22-minute period Wednesday, according to police.
He smothered the toddler, shook him and struck him, police said.
Terrell, whose driver's license lists an Atlantic City address, is charged with second-degree aggravated assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, Lt. Stacey Schlachter told BreakingAC.
Terrell left the home after his live-in girlfriend came home. He turned himself in Thursday, and is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
He has previous arrests for assault, robbery, drug and weapons offenses.
The child is doing well, Schlachter said.
