An Atlantic City man was arrested Thursday after he and another man were shot during an altercation.
Edmund Williams, 47, allegedly shot the victim in the 300 block of North Carolina Avenue at about 12:30 p.m.
The victim and Williams then fought over the handgun, which fired, striking Williams, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Police were called to the scene, and told that the suspect fled into a residence on South Carolina Avenue, according to the report.
The 49-year-old victim had been driven to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus.
SWAT team personnel were called to the scene to search for the suspect, Fair said. They made contact with residents inside several locations, Fair said.
Pennsylvania and New York avenue schools, along with the Boys and Girls Club were put on lockdown as a precaution during the search.
Williams was taken to the hospital, where he is under police guard.
He is charged aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
