Prosecutor remains mum four months after Hamilton Township killing

  • News

A mother is still looking for answers in the fatal stabbing of her son four months ago.
Thomas Randall, 30, was stabbed in the stairwell inside a Brandywood townhouse in Hamilton Township on Jan. 2, according to the death certificate obtained by BreakingAC. He had "multiple sharp force injuries," the medical examiner wrote.
It was Atlantic County's first homicide of the year.
But the Prosecutor's Office never publicly released anything about the Pleasantville man's killing, including that it even happened. No arrests have been made.
"The investigator told me to stop calling because there's nothing he could tell me," Valarie Randall told BreakingAC. "I just need closure and justice for my son."
Thomas James Randall, who loved ones knew as Boomie, had gone to the home at 6077 Hoover Drive to bring food to his children, his mother said.
Joseph Williams drove his grandson there, and waited outside.
But Randall never came out.
Instead, Williams was told his grandson was inside bleeding.
"He was lying on the floor and had a big hole in his side," said Williams, who raised his grandson. "He said, 'Grandpop, give me some water, my mouth is dry.'"
Williams said his grandson then told him he was tired.
Valarie Randall said she got a call from her mother saying her son had been stabbed and "we needed to go to the hospital."
Because of COVID, they could not go inside.
"They told us they would keep us informed," Randall said. "When they called us back, it was to say goodbye. He didn't make it."
Now, she is making it her mission to find out what happened to her son.
For his part, Williams is keeping a promise he made to his grandson to keep watch over his three children.
Williams still sees his great-grandson and two great-granddaughters every weekend.
"They tell me how much they loved their dad," he said. "They don't deserve this."
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office did not respond to questions as to why nothing was ever released publicly about the killing.
BreakingAC was able to confirm the homicide through an Open Public Records Act request.
