Two men were arrested and a handgun recovered after a ShotSpotter alert early Wednesday morning in Pleasantville.
Police got the alert that shots were fired in the area of West Pleasant Avenue, North First Street and Lake Place at 2:23 a.m., Lt. Stacey Schlachter said.
Two men were in the area when police arrived, according to the report.
One of the men, Javanni Horton, was seen putting an item under a trashcan in the 100 block of North First Street, Schlachter said.
The other man, 23-year-old Joel Marquez-Martinez, then got the item and ran, according to the report.
Officers Kendall Washington and Arturo Bruno arrested Marquez-Martinez after a short chase, Schlachter said.
He had a 9mm handgun with high-capacity magazine and hollow-point bullets.
Horton, 27, was detained at the scene.
Both men were charged with weapons offenses, including possession of a prohibited device for the high-capacity magazine.
Horton was additionally charged with certain person not to possess a weapon. He is currently on probation after being sentenced last year for throwing bodily fluid on a law enforcement officer, court records show.
