Atlantic City man just out of prison arrested on gun charges

  • News

An Atlantic City man recently released from prison is back in jail after a ShotSpotter alert led police to a loaded handgun he allegedly fired.
Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert at about 1:40 a.m. Monday in the 700 block of Ohio Avenue, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Samantha Johnson, 20, of Stockbridge, Georgia, was stopped as she walked down an alley between two houses.
Officers Juanita Harris and William Luengas-Gonzalez found a loaded handgun in her purse, Fair said.
An investigation found that Sean Lowney got into a dispute when he fired one shot through the window of a storm door, according to the report.
Lowney, 29, then handed the gun to Johnson, Fair said.
He was arrested in the rear of the residence by Officers Robert Reynolds and Justice Martin.
Lowney was released from Northern State Prison in November, after serving a sentence on gun and drug charges, state Department of Corrections records show.
That stems from a March 2017 arrest after a fight at a motel. Responding officers found 91 bags of heroin, 76 grams of marijuana, a loaded handgun and drug paraphernalia in his room, police said at the time.
Lowney is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and certain person not to possess a weapon.
He is being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
Johnson, 20, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, and released on a summons.
