  • News

A Philadelphia attorney died Saturday morning, hours after being found in the bay not far from his Longport home.
Andy Stern, 60, was pulled from the water off Margate at about 7:30 Friday night, police said.
Police were first called to the area of 22nd Avenue and the bay for a welfare check at 7:22 p.m., according to the report.
Investigators found that Stern was missing and believed to have possibly fallen into the bay near his home in the 2200 block of Atlantic Avenue.
Multiple witnesses reported seeing a body in the water off 33rd Avenue, according to the report.
Members of the U.S. Coast Guard retrieved the body off Monroe Avenue in Margate, police said.
Longport and Margate police officers and firefighters were on scene assisting the Coast Guard with lifesaving efforts, the report said.
Stern succumbed to his injuries early Saturday morning.
The death is being investigated by Longport police, who said there does not appear to be any evidence of foul play.
An autopsy is pending.
Stern formerly worked for Kline and Specter, but had opened his own firm with Elizabeth Crawford in January, with an office in Philadelphia's Center City.
