A Somers Point man was critically injured after he set himself on fire before walking into a gas station convenience store Saturday.
Atlantic City police were called to the Gulf Station at 2000 Atlantic Ave. just after midnight, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
A gas station attendant used a fire extinguisher to put the flames out, according to the report.
The 24-year-old man was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus with severe burns, Fair said.
His condition was considered life-threatening.
An investigation found that the man doused himself with rubbing alcohol before using a lighter to set himself on fire, Fair said.
He then entered the gas station convenience store, which started multiple small fires. He exited the store, and the fire was extinguished, according to the report.
