Car crash sparked fatal Atlantic City shooting, affidavit claims

  • News

A motor vehicle crash in March allegedly led to a fatal Atlantic City shooting in May.
Denzel Garrison allegedly threatened Jahmil Greenidge and his family after the March 7 crash, according to the affidavit of probable cause charging Garrison and another man with murder.
No details were given about the crash, including where it happened.
But Garrison continued to have a fight with Greenidge that led to the deadly confrontation at about 8 a.m. May 19, in the 300 block of North Tennessee Avenue, the affidavit states.
Greenidge, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Garrison’s phone allegedly contained a conversation where someone told him that Greenidge has “gotta go.”
“Fact I’m on it,” Garrison allegedly replied.
He then set up a meeting with Laquine Demby in Atlantic City on May 19, the affidavit states.
Garrison was driven to and from the shooting in a black Hyundai Sonata connected to Demby, the report claims.
That matches the photo of a car released by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office about a week after the shooting.
Video surveillance shows a left-handed man shoot Greenidge as he walks into an apartment complex, the affidavit states.

Garrison is left handed.

GARRISON
DEMBY

Garrison was arrested in Newark, where he is from, according to a release from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
But the charges list him with an Atlantic City address.
Demby was arrested in Pleasantville, where he was living.
Both men are charged with murder and conspiracy.
Garrison additionally faces weapons offenses.
Demby himself was the victim of a serious shooting in 2017, that killed another man.
Matthew Gonzalez, 31, is serving a 40-year sentence in that Hamilton Township shooting that killed 31-year-old Taufeeq Mitchell. He was convicted of attempted murder for shooting Demby.
Demby and Garrison are now lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility. There was not yet a date listed for their detention hearings as of Friday.
