Police are looking for a group of men believed to be involved in crimes in shopping parking lots in Hamilton and Egg Harbor townships about an hour apart Monday.
The suspects were seen in a black 2017 Hyundai Elantra. There was no detailed description of the suspects.
Hamilton Township police were called to the Marshall’s parking lot at 1:54 p.m., for the report of a purse-snatching.
The victim told police she saw two men hanging between parked vehicles as she walked toward the store.
A third man then came up from behind and took her purse off her shoulder, according to the report.
The men then fled in the suspect car, which they used to try to strike the victim before driving off, she told police.
Egg Harbor Township police were called to the English Creek parking lot at 2:44 p.m. for a strong-armed robbery and stolen vehicle.
A 64-year-old man was knocked to the ground and struck numerous times by a group believed to be the same men from the Hamilton Township incident. They arrived in the same black Elantra, which had been stolen from Barnegat, police said.
The men stole the victim’s car key and other property, and then fled with one driving off in the victim’s 2020 blue Toyota Camry, according to the report.
Egg Harbor Township Officer Eliael Ramirez saw the stolen Elantra traveling south on Fernwood Avenue from Route 322, police said.
The driver fled, and turned onto West Jersey Avenue heading east, and crashed into another driver, according to the report.
The Elantra was last seen on West Jersey heading into the Harbor Square Mall access road.
Police recovered the blue car stolen from Egg Harbor Township in Atlantic City.
