Man who died breaking into Galloway restaurant was on probation for burglary

  • News

A Mays Landing man identified as the would-be burglar found dead in a Galloway Township restaurant was on probation for a break-in.
Phillip Maddelin, 58, was found dead after he apparently became trapped breaking into the Two Brothers from Italy restaurant in the township's Pomona section.
Police were called to the business just before 10 a.m. Monday for a deceased man.
Maddelin tried to gain entry through a rooftop exhaust fan, according to the investigation.
A cause of death is still pending.
Maddelin was sentenced to two years' probation in May, in connection with a February 2020 burglary, court records show.
In 2011, he pleaded guilty to burglaries and was sentenced to Drug Court.
