GoFundMe honors family of man killed in EHT crash

  • News

The Egg Harbor Township Public Works family has come together after the loss of a father of four.

Jose Costa, 37, was heading east on Ocean Heights at about 12:40 a.m., when he lost control, left the road and struck a pole in the area of Leap Street, Lt. Robert Gray said.

Volunteer firefighters from Scullville and Bargaintown extricated Costa from the Toyota Camry. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Costa leaves behind his high school sweetheart, Theresa , and their four children, ages 6 to 16.

Costa was employed with the township's Public Works Department for nearly two decades. Now, the some of the wives of those workers have come together to start a GoFundMe for the family.

"As a community, we want to ease any stress on the family caused by outstanding costs of the funeral and what comes afterwards," the GoFundMe reads.

"They're an amazing family who loved their friends, family and community," said Amber Ang, one of the women who started the fundraiser. "We are lucky to have known Jose."

The crash remains under investigation. Traffic on Ocean Heights Avenue was detoured for about five hours for the investigation and clearing the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Traffic Unit at 609-926-2661.
