EHT man admits role in Atlantic County's largest drug seizure

  • News

An Egg Harbor Township man arrested with what authorities called "the largest single seizure of drugs in the history of Atlantic County” pleaded guilty in federal court.

Richard Clavijo, 40, admitted to one count of conspiracy to distribute more than one kilogram of heroin and one count of maintaining a drug-related premises before U.S. District Judge Renee Marie Bumb in Camden Federal Court.

Both counts carry mandatory minimum terms of 10 years in prison, with maximum terms of life.

Clavijo and his brother, 38-year-old Christopher Gonzalez, were arrested July 12, after police came to his township home, after a months-long DEA investigation.

Officers found five kilograms of suspected fentanyl and cocaine, two kilograms of suspected heroin and eight kilograms of a white powder that tested positive for fentanyl in the basement of the township home, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced at the time.

Agents also found approximately 30,000 bags of prepackaged heroin, a .45 caliber handgun and a 9mm 50-round drum magazine, according to the report.

Paychecks listed Gonzalez as also living in the township, even though charges listed him living in Pleasantville. His charges are still pending.

Clavijo is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 7.
