Barnegat sex offender took pics of 7-year-old in bathroom, police say

  • News

A registered sex offender from Barnegat allegedly took pictures of a child in a bathroom, police said.

Police were called to the Costco Wholesale in Stafford Township, after a father saw the man taking pictures of his 7-year-old from under the bathroom stall, according to the report.

Christopher Dinverno, 39, of Barnegat, was positively identified by Costco management, who had previous incidents involing him, police said.

Dinverno was found at the Stafford Diner, and taken in for questioning. He was then charged with invasion of privacy and endangering the welfare of a child.

He previous pleaded guilty to a 2017 incident of third-degree endangering-sexual conduct with a child in a non-custodial role, records show. As a result, he had to register as a Megan's Law offender, but no time of incarceration or probation is listed.

Dinverno is not on the public online Megan's Law registry. Not all offenders are required to be listed there.

An active GoFundMe from last year started by Dinverno asks for help getting a new place to live for him and his brother after their father died.

"Due to my needs and challenges my brother can not work a full time position away from our home," Dinverno wrote in the GoFundMe, where he says he has cerebral palsy.

"We also face many challenges in obtaining a new rental as we have no financial means to cover expenses to move!!!!" he wrote. "My brother and I are very scared and alone!!!!"

The fundraiser had received $4,125 of its $50,000 goal.
