A Linwood man was sentenced to 364 days in jail after pleading guilty to animal cruelty in the death of a 4-month-old puppy.
Kyle Blythe, 24, became angry with the dog, Dolce, after she chewed up some of his clothing, according to an investigation. He then beat her, causing severe brain injuries.
He failed to get medical treatment for the injured animal, instead dropping her at the home of a friend, who took the puppy to Absecon Veterinary Hospital, where it died.
Blythe will serve his sentence in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
He previously told BreakingAC that he brought the dog to a friend who worked at a vet's office to see if it could be saved.
That friend told BreakingAC that she lost her job as a result.
Blythe also will be subject to five years' probation upon his release, the maximum allowed, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Residents are urged to report any instances of animal abuse or neglect to their local police department. Each police department in Atlantic County has a designated Humane Law Enforcement Officer that has
specialized training in identifying and investigating animal abuse and neglect.
Animal abuse and neglect complaints can be made by calling your local police department's non-emergency number and providing all relevant information to the department's Human Law Enforcement Officer.
