An Atlantic County man with a long history of defrauding women was sentenced to 66 months in federal prison for escaping federal custody and continuing his crimes.
Patrick Giblin, 58, previously pleaded guilty to escape from custody and wire fraud.
He had served nearly three years of a five-year plea deal when Bureau of Prison personnel took Giblin from the Lewisburg penitentiary to the Harrisburg Airport at about 6 a.m. July 23, 2020, and watched him leave on a plane headed for Newark with a stopover in Charlotte, N.C.
He was to report to the Kintock Residential Re-entry Center at 3 p.m., but never returned.
Giblin then returned to his ways of using telephone dating services to bilk money from women.
The term he was serving at the time of his escape was for scamming 10 women out of money ranging from $15,000 to $40,000. He was on supervised release at the time those crimes were committed.
He was first convicted in 2007 of 10 counts of wire fraud.
In addition to the prison term, Giblin was sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay restitution of $23,428.
