An Atlantic City man accused of shooting a teen in an argument at a dice game was ordered held in jail Friday.
Ibn Demps, 23, was arrested last week less than three blocks from where the shooting took place.
A search Demps’ residence after his arrested turned up a gun believed to have been used in the shooting. It was a “ghost gun,” meaning there is no serial number making it difficult to trace
He is charged with attempted murder.
The 18-year-old victim’s statement indicates the shooting was accidental, defense attorney Wayne Powell told the judge.
“It was some sort of misunderstanding that (the victim) provoked,” Powell said the statement says.
The victim, whose name was not released, described the “shock and surprise on Demps’ face when he claimed the weapon discharged.”
e was sentenced to Recovery Court in May, on two prior drug cases, records show. The latest charge would likely result in a violation.
